More than just a name.

Greener Pastures Equine Program was created out of fortitude, healing, perseverance, and connection. As a Not-for-Profit, it is a way of honouring and paying homage to the late Sapper Sean Greenfield, aka GREENER. Sean lived life big and full of vigour, he was an incredible Combat Engineer with 2CER and gave his life serving his country in Afghanistan. Known for his witty humour and contagious smile, Sean truly lived life. It is in his memory that we created a program that can give back a smile to others, through the atmosphere and interactions that happen on this 34 acre slice of heaven, located in Westmeath.

Mission

Our mission is to foster a supportive community where individuals can share life experiences and engage in transformative partnerships with horses. We believe in the power of the enduring bond between nature, people, and horses as a source of healing and enhancement of life quality. We stand by the principle of ‘Strength in Numbers’, recognizing that together, we can achieve more and create a positive impact on each other’s lives

Vision

Our vision is to be a leading nature-based community that fosters empowerment, belonging, and improved wellness through partnerships with peers, horses, and the environment. We envision a world where the environment we create respects and nourishes all its inhabitants, and where value and purpose can flourish amidst obstacles.

Peer to Peer Support

Our team is passionate about peers supporting peers.

Generosity of our Founders, Board members and contributions from the community IS the backbone of Greener Pastures.

Our Team

Melissa Jardine-Ridley

Melissa brings "Cape Bretoner" warmth and charisma and a long rooted bond with horses. Her background in First Responder roles and presently, a Registered Nurse with Holistic Nurse specialty, compliments nature based healing, peer support and equine partnership. This led to her nickname: "Herd Shepherd" where she is as devoted to the horses wellbeing as she is to the peer supported communities she is called to serve.

Graham Ridley

Graham is an esteemed combat Veteran who brings inspiration and a strong sense of comradery. Coined the "Combat Cowboy", Graham is a Peer Support Worker and honoured to pay it forward to others who may be seeking a place to find peace, belonging and restored confidence.

Our Services

Through peer to peer support we can and we do find our footing again. We allow our 34 acres of vast nature, incredible horses and peer support framework weave its way into our Clients—at where they are in their journey–nothing forced. After completion of a multiple week program we continue to forge bonds by hosting monthly reconnects.

At Greener Pastures

We pride ourselves on the philosophy of partnering with our horses rather than merely using them. Our commitment to high-quality care and guardianship reflects the deep respect we hold for these incredible animals, who are truly the soul of our work. Each of our horses has a rich history as athletes, excelling in various disciplines such as dressage, pulling bred competition, and serving as Mennonite plow and hauling teams. However, we recognize that life can take unexpected turns, and injuries can alter their trajectories. Just like our horses, we believe in rediscovery and repurposing.

Connect-Restore-Realign

Harnessing the power of peer support and equine partnership to provide a sanctuary where individuals can rebuild their strength and face life’s challenges. We are committed to helping people rediscover their rhythm amidst life’s ups and downs, empowering them to move forward with confidence and purpose. Through shared experiences and mutual support, we strive to foster meaningful connections that aid in each individual’s journey of self-discovery.

Angus Birthday: July 26, 2021
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Paint X
Height: 15 HH

We're thrilled to introduce Finneas and Angus, two handsome painted geldings joining the Greener Pastures Equine team! These half-brothers possess an uncanny wisdom and curiosity, hinting at old souls in young bodies. We believe they will be wonderful additions to our program.
Finneas and Angus will begin their journey as three-year-olds with an intensive 90-day professional colt starting program in Fall 2025. This foundational training will focus on building trust, developing fundamental skills, and ensuring they are well-prepared for their future roles within our program.
Our goal is to have Finneas and Angus integrated into the Greener Pastures program by Spring 2027. Their arrival will allow some of our more senior equine partners to enjoy a well-deserved retirement, knowing they are leaving the program in capable hooves.
We're excited to share their progress with you! Follow along on our social media channels and website for updates, photos, and videos as Finneas and Angus learn and grow. We believe they have a bright future ahead, and we're honored to be a part of their journey.
